Chlorhexidine (CHX), also known as chlorhexidine, is an external disinfectant, antibacterial agent, and cationic surfactant that has a killing effect on most Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria (although its effect on Gram negative bacteria is weak). It is used for preoperative skin disinfection and surgical instrument sterilization.
